INDUCTION PROGRAMME FOR FRESHERS GNANAM SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
26th – 28th August, 2013


Gnanam School of Business(GSB), Thanjavur is a unit of the A.Y.S Parisutha Nadar Centenary Foundation, a Public Charitable Trust which was started to commemorate the birth centenary of Shri. A.Y.S Parisutha Nadar, who was a philanthropist in Thanjavur. Gnanam School of Business, a leading business school in Thanjavur is inducting the fresh batch of students for the MBA program 2012-2014. The Induction Program was inaugurated on 26th August, 2013 to help students be oriented towards the guiding principles of the programme that include empowering students with distilled business wisdom, insights and a strong conceptual foundation, inculcating in them the character to emerge as future business leaders that will be a benchmark for excellence in every aspect. 

Having started in 2009 and completed three successful batches with 100% placements GSB commemorated its successful fifth Batch 2013 – 2015 with the three days induction programme from 26th August to 28th August, 2013. As the freshers walked into the portals of Gnanam School of Business, the management of GSB, the faculty members, the students and the staff were indeed delighted to welcome them with open hands and jubilant faces. Parivarthan, the Freshers’ Week is organized at Gnanam School of Business to mark the grand welcoming of the newcomers and to assist the newly admitted GSBians to get acquainted with the ideals and functioning of the institution. 

The activities during the week were organized to help them bond with each other, the sophomores and the faculty members of GSB. This transformational programme is aimed at breaking the ice and making the freshers’ feel part of the GSB family in which they would be members henceforth. Finally, Parivarthan, the Freshers’ Week would be drawn to a conclusion on 28th August, 2013 with sophomores throwing a Freshers’ Day party at Hotel Gnanam, Thanjavur. 

The inauguration of this induction programme had a good start by having eminent personality like Mr. B.Srinivasan, Director, School of Management, SSN, Chennai. The inauguration programme began with lighting of traditional Kuthu Vizhakku by the Chief guest Mr. B. B.Srinivasan; the Chairman, Mr.S.P.Selvaraj; and the CEO, Mr.S.P.S. ArulDoss, Ms. Kavitha, Faculty, GSB and one of the freshers. Mr. Mr. B. B.Srinivasan emphasized on areas where a management graduate to be strengthened like difference between studying and learning; articulation and communication; active and passive learning and competition among management students now and then. Mr. B. B.Srinivasan encouraged the freshers to imbibe the practice of internalization of management concepts to make the young managers competitive in business world. His thrust was more towards student – voluntary learning rather than staff – imposed learning. Also he was emphasizing the importance of specialization in MBA, and how students should stream themselves into these specializations. 

To make the students more aware about the prevailing industry trends and requirements Mr. Irfaan Haneef, Management Consultant, Chennai shared his views on nuances of managerial world and the roles and responsibilities of a manager irrespective of the specialization. 

Post lunch session was handled by Dr. Rajeesh Viswanathan, Asst. Professor, Pondicherry University who handled a session on “Case Study Methodology” for teaching MBA students. He spoke on the benefits of the case study approach to increase the dexterity in designing the course curriculum and enable the students to reap the maximum benefit emphasising on both quantitative and qualitative analysis. He added that rather than teaching what is there in books, giving case studies to the students will help them to know what is their in the current economy and they will be competent enough to the face the world. He also mentioned that through case study methods students will try to develop the communication skills.

Penultimate session was handled by Mr. Naresh, Asst. Professor, Pondicherry University – Karaikkal Campus. Mr. Naresh described the students the basics of internships in organization and the benefits of learning as an intern in the real career. His accentuated on empirical learning and the right methods of research in managerial world. He also stated the areas of management that require research.

The first day of induction was found to be fruitful to the freshers in terms of associating themselves with the corporate world.
