A Power Talk on Rupee Volatility was conducted at GSB on 25th September 2013 for the I MBA students between 10 AM and 1PM. Dr. G. Gnanasekaran, Associate Professor, Department of Economics St. Joseph’s College, Trichy.
Dr. Gnanasekaran elaborated on the causes of Rupee depreciation and its impact on the current Indian Economy. He further stressed on the Interdependence of the Indian economy and the Global economy in particular to the U.S Federal Reserve tapering of the stimulus package.
The Students were given a glimpse of the Current Indian Scenario with respect to FDI, Fund Allocation Pattern to 3 F’s (Food, Fuel, and Fertilizer) and the Changing Work culture which in a major way has created dent in economic prospects of India.
He also addressed on the following
  1. GDP has gone down from 8.5% to 4%.
  2. Problem in Current Account Deficit (CAD).
  3. Policy Paralysis.

He finally concluded with an interactive session, taking up questions from students about currency, crisis, threat from Chinese and US economies, Political Instability, Crisis in Governance and FDI in Retail. The Students of GSB had yet another day of learning the concepts in a practical and lucid manner.
